The mission of the Information Literacy program at Otterbein University is to educate information literate life-long learners. Librarians in partnership with faculty teach students how to identify, locate, evaluate, and use information effectively, as integral parts of scholarship and liberal education.

The information literacy program goals include:

  • Educate students, faculty and staff regarding concepts and frameworks for understanding information processes.
  • Develop and disseminate sequenced information literacy competencies throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
  • Encourage all information seekers to become self-sufficient and technologically competent for retrieving, evaluating, managing, and using information.
  • Promote the development of dynamic course-integrated information literacy experiences that support and enhance course objectives.
  • Design information literacy instruction tools for self-instruction with opportunities for practice and assessment.
  • Develop assessment plans to evaluate student learning of information literacy skills.
  • Expand campus awareness of information literacy principles through teaching circles, workshops, and other learning opportunities.
