             Captain Augustus R. Keller was born in 1838.  In 1856, Augustus Keller came to Westerville, Ohio to attended Otterbein University.  Augustus Keller was never a fully enrolled student at Otterbein.  He attended the Otterbein academy which was an introductory or prerequisite school, that when he completed, would allow him to enter the real Otterbein university full time.  Augustus Keller went on to graduate from the Otterbein academy in the year 1859, but Augustus Keller never went on to graduate from Otterbein as a full time student.  On August 29, 1862, at the age of 24, Augustus Keller joined up with the Ohio volunteer infantry.  Keller started his military career in the very first regiment of the Ohio volunteer infantry in 1862.  His time of service with this regiment was to be three years. He was later transferred to the ninetieth regiment; company B, of the Ohio volunteer infantry in July 1863.  Augustus Keller was then promoted to Captain on January 1, 1864 and again transferred, this time to company C of the ninetieth Ohio volunteer infantry.  Augustus Keller was again promoted to the rank of assistant quartermaster on August 19, 1864.  It was the ninetieth regiment; company C, that Augustus Keller would spend most of his time traversing the war years with.  Captain Augustus R. Keller and company C of the Ohio volunteer infantry played a rich and honorable role during the Civil War.  The Ohio volunteer infantry, ninetieth regiment company C, was involved in many key battles and skirmishes during the Civil War that stretched from northern Kentucky all the way down to Atlanta Georgia.
