Indian & Thailand Festival 2016

India and Thailand are the gateway countries being featured Fall 2016 as Otterbein focuses on Asia for the 2016-17 Opening Doors to the World Program. India will be represented by two exhibitions that feature photography—On Being Gandhi (photography) and Sonabai: Another Way of Seeing (village women's art and photography). Additional programming will include Indian musical performances, Indian theatre performances, new contemporary Indian dance performance related to the exhibitions, a Bollywood film series of award-winning works by Abhijat Joshi, Professor, English Department at Otterbein, including 3 Idiots and PK.

Two exhibitions of experimental Thai photography, emphasizing urban environments, will serve as the backdrop for award-winning Thai films that focus on the more expansive rural environments of this Southeast Asian Country.  Jonathan Johnson, Professor, Art Department at Otterbein, will be displaying his sabbatical work centering on cultural experiences in Thailand and the American Midwest. Additionally, the Thai filmmaker Uruphong Raksasad will be on campus to speak about his documentaries Agrarian Utopia and Songs of Rice, that focus on rural Thailand.
