Resolution

 
Resolved: the United States federal government should significantly increase the regulation of state and/or local police misconduct in the United States.

This guide will help you find information for this debate topic concerning the regulation of police misconduct. Separate tags will designate books, articles, government resources and NGOs (nongovernment organizations, such as advocacy groups). 

About the resolution. There are three components of this resolution that need to remain in focus as you construct your argument. 

1. federal government - This debate is concerning what the federal government can or should do. Keep in mind this gets at the idea of separation of power, local rule, and other issues pertaining to the structure of government. 

2. Increase the regulation- How does the federal government currently regulate police? What options are out there? 

3. State and/or local police misconduct - Think highway patrol (usually a state agency), sheriffs, or city police departments.
