Fine Appeals

Fine Appeals

If you would like to appeal a fine that has been added to your library account you may do so via the Fine Appeal Form.  This form must be printed out and submitted to the circulation supervisors for review.  Please be as detailed as possible in the form so that a decision can be made that is fair to both you and other library patrons.

Replacement Charges

Items that are more than 30 days overdue will get billed for a replacement.  Those charges are detailed at the bottom of the Borrowing Information Chart.  Please return your items on time to allow us to be in good standing with other members of OPAL, OhioLINK, or SearchOhio.

Note: Individuals are responsible for all items checked out to them, and the subsequent replacement costs of those items should they become lost or damaged.  Please see Replacement Options box below for information on replacement procedures.

Cash and checks are the only forms of payment accepted in the library. Checks should be made out to Otterbein University.

Replacement Options

I've lost an item, what should I do?

Lost items carry a hefty replacement fee. Replacement charges on books and media vary from $50 to $125 depending on who owns the item.  Equipment and other technology replacement charges can be as high as $1300.

But you do have some options...

In certain cases, we will accept a replacement copy of a lost item and reduce charges on your account.  To find out if this is an option for your missing item, please talk to Rebecca Raeske-Grinch (Circulation Supervisor,, 614-823-3072) or Elizabeth Zeitz (Technical Services Coordinator,, 614-823-1938) before you make any purchases.  There are various restrictions on this process and is not always an available option.
