Returning Library Materials

If you are near campus, any Otterbein, OPAL, OhioLINK, or SearchOhio items that you no longer need can be returned to our external book drop located off our Main Street entrance.

If you aren’t near Westerville or would prefer to not head to campus, you can wait to return your books to any local OhioLINK or SearchOhio library who will ship it back to the owning library. Note that these items will not get shipped back until those libraries reopen so may remain on your account for the time being.

An alternate available for everyone is to mail your returns to the address below. Please note that you are responsible for any costs associated with the mailing of your library material.

Checking Out Library Materials

The Courtright Memorial Library building and most other libraries in the state of Ohio are currently closed and as a result checking out library materials is not currently available.

Our digital resources however are available 24/7 via our website. If you need assistance in finding a digital resource please reach out to the library via email, chat, or phone; we have staff available Monday-Friday 9am-6pm to assist you.

Library Account Questions

Q: "I have checked out items, when are they due?"

A: Library staff are working to extend all current due dates. Currently we have extended items to be due June 1, 2020 which is based on the Ohio Governor's Stay Safe at Home Order expiring on May 29th.  If our library building and many others around the state do not plan to reopen in early June we will likely extend all June 1st due dates to some time later in the summer.  Stay tuned or reach out to for more information.

EDIT- Due dates have now been extended to September 1, 2020 for all current students, faculty, staff, and Friends of the Library.


Q: "I returned my library materials but they are still showing up on my OPAL Library Account"

A: Depending on where you returned your items there are several things that could delay your items from getting checked in and removed from your library account.  Items returned to Otterbein library's external book drop are being emptied once a week, quarantined for 4 days and then being checked in.  Items returned to other OPAL, OhioLINK, or SearchOhio libraries won't be checked in or shipped back to their owning institutions until the drop off location reopens and OhioLINK begins pick ups and deliveries again.  Items that are mailed to Otterbein's library will be quarantined for 4 days and then checked in.
