Circulation Policies

General Library Account Information

  • The maximum items you can check out will vary based on the type of library account you have.  Speak with a library staff member if you have specific questions about these limits.
  • All library materials should be returned on or before the date/time they are due. Items returned after that date/time are subject to overdue fines.
  • Library patrons are responsible for all items checked out on their accounts and the subsequent replacement costs of those items should they become lost or damaged.  The library may send courtesy notices prior to an item’s due date but it is the borrower’s responsibility to know their items’ due dates and renew or return items in a timely manner.
  • It is your responsibility to check your Otterbein e-mail, online library account, and mail for overdue and billing notices.  Notices are only sent to the email address on file with the library.  For students and faculty/staff this MUST be your Otterbein email address.
  • Courtesy overdue notices are generally sent via email 1 day, 7 days, and 30 days after items are due.

Our Academic Term Hours are: 

7:45 am - 12:00 midnight
7:45 am - 6:00 pm
12:00 pm - 6:00 pm
3:00 pm - 12:00 midnight

Our Summer Term Hours are: 

9:00 am - 6:00 pm

Recalled Items

My Item was Recalled...

The Courtright Memorial Library reserves the right to recall any Otterbein owned material at any time for the purpose of being added to our Course Reserve collection.  Course reserve items have a shorter loan period; 2 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days.  Otterbein items that are recalled will be given a new due date, four (4) business days out from the date of recall.  Library staff will make every effort to request another copy of the recalled item via OPAL, OhioLINK or SearchOhio for the inconvenienced patron.  Patrons will be notified via email whether or not an additional copy was successfully requested.  Additional copies generally take 3-5 business days to arrive at Otterbein’s library for pick up.  Recalled items are processed within 1-2 business days and patrons wanting to access these items can ask for them at the Customer Service Desk.

OPAL, OhioLINK, and SearchOhio libraries may also recall their items at their discretion.  The Courtright Memorial Library has no control over these recalls.  If you need assistance in finding an additional copy for your use, please reach out to Otterbein library staff.
