Peer-review

  • First peer-reviewed journal: "Philosophical Transactions" 1665. Henry Oldenburg/ Council of the Royal Society
  • 25,000 active peer-reviewed journals in 2009
  • 1.5 million articles/year
  • audience: 10-15 million readers
  • each year, the number of articles grows by 3% and the number of journals by 3.5% (2003)

Activity: Find one peer-reviewed journal in OneSearch and try to find as much about it as you can. Important information: how long has it been around? Is it still running? If you Google the title, can you find any controversy on the web about the journal? What country is it based in? Who are the editors? Is there any controversy on the web about the editors? How often are the articles published in this journal cited? (For this last question, you may want to use Google Scholar or Web of Science Core Collection--see the tab on resources for verifying information).
