Library Resources for Graduate Students

A reference and research guide to library resources for all graduate students at Otterbein University.

Searching the Catalog

To search the Otterbein catalog, click the Books tab above the search bar on the library homepage. Enter a search term in the search bar, and click Search.

This search will show eBooks, audio recordings, DVDs, and any other media accessible in the library as well as physical books that are present in the our Main Collection.

To narrow the search to only physical books, click Modify Search on the results screen:

Then select "Book" from the Material Type menu and click the search button (you may also limit your search to audiovisual materials, sound recordings, eBooks, or whatever form of media you wish to search for):

This will limit your search to only physical books in the Otterbein library. Notice the number of search results narrowed from 135 to 75:

Finding Your Item

Once you have decided on an item in the catalog you wish to check out, note its call number. This is displayed directly under the title in the catalog search results list.

The Otterbein Library uses the Library of Congress system to assign call numbers to most of its collection. The children's collection, also know as juvenile collection, uses The Dewey Decimal Classification System. Call numbers are assigned by topic, and items in the library are organized by call number. If you have difficulty locating a particular section in the library, ask a librarian for assistance.
