Chronicling America is a project between the National Digital Newspaper Program, the National Endowment of the Humanities and the Library of Congress. This website has scanned newspaper pages and a searchable database of US newspapers.

A wealth of primary information with over 164 million items.

The Smithsonian Mission is to "Shape the future by preserving our heritage, discovering new knowledge, and sharing our resources with the world." The Smithsonian consists of museums, gardens, galleries and a zoo. Their collection consists of over 154 million museum objects and and specimens and 2.1 million library volumes.

The Smithsonian Libraries consists of 21 specialized research libraries which range from cultural pursuits to business history. They have an ever expanding online presence.

History News Network is a part of George Washington's Colombian College of Arts and Sciences. Their goal is to put today's news into a historical perspective. Updated daily with posts from historians with different political leanings.

Beginning in 1837 the printer Peter Force, who also served as mayor of Washington, D.C., devoted sixteen years to collecting thousands of pamphlets, booklets, and newspaper articles pertaining to the "Origin, Settlement, and Progress of the Colonies in North America" from the Revolutionary Era in order to preserve them for future generations.
