Art History

This guide supports the Art History Major and those taking art history classes at Otterbein University. Sub-pages will be included to meet the needs of individual classes.

Getting Started - Reference Books

Need ideas?

Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and historical overviews are a great start to get ideas.  They often have a bibliography that can point you to more resources as well. This includes Wikipedia.

Below are just a few books on art. Note that you can also get into this topic from another direction, such as the theme you want to discuss.

Citations

The citation style for art history is generally Chicago, though MLA may be acceptable.

Databases: Some databases provide help for creating citations. Microsoft Word also provides citation help.

And, if you would like personal help, please stop by the Writing Center on the 2nd floor of the library.
