Karen Meyer, '65 - June 2012
In Conflict at Chillicothe, Karen Meyer ‘65 takes young readers on an epic journey along the Midwestern frontier, from Virginia to the new territories in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Join real-life figures Simon Kenton and Tecumseh and experience the challenges of a new world as the Stewart family treks westward.
Karen Meyer’s passion for history began as a young girl and led her to complete a copy of an early Ohio settler's diary in her senior year. After earning a bachelor's degree from Otterbein College in both English and Education, Karen became an Air Force wife, and over the course of nine years lived in places as far away as Labrador. Seeing new lands gave Meyer a window on regional and national differences, and confirmed an appreciation for her own Ohio roots, where she and her husband settled and raised their family. Meyer’s first published article appeared in Ladycom Magazine; and her story, "A Stroll Through a Maine Junkyard,” was published in Old Cars Weekly News & Marketplace. As an alumna of Otterbein College, Meyer wrote an article in Otterbein's Towers magazine about the relocation of a brick home in her community. That led her to delve into the history of her hometown college. She also wrote "Face to Face with God," the first in her series of devotions for Christian youth camp ministries.
