Design & Teach Travel Learning Courses

This page features research articles collected through a general review of recent scholarly literature on Travel Learning and/or Study Abroad education. Entries were organized into four overarching categories, for your convenience:

  • Design & Best Practices: Studies that focus on the development and successful management of different travel learning programs or experiences.
  • Student & Faculty Perspectives: Research into the ways faculty and students perceive academic travel, from their motivations for engaging in it, to the transformations they experienced during their trips or after their return.
  • Assessment & Outcomes: Evidence-based articles on how to assess students' learning during a study abroad program as well as what kinds of learning outcomes these programs can support.
  • Discipline-Specific Resources: This section provides additional resources organized under three specific disciplinary categories (Humanities and Social Sciences, Professional Studies, and STEM).

You can also download this list as a spreadsheet (MS Excel), so you can explore these resources by category and by program format (short-term, course-based, etc.). Click the link below to download this file.
