Starting in the fall semester of 2016, GenEd programs will be using a new ePortfolio template called the MyOtterbein ePortfolio. This template was designed so that students could create a single portfolio that compiles all of their work in the GenEd program as well as other aspects of their experience at Otterbein.
There are three aspects of this new template and its implementation process that are important for faculty to know, especially if you teach in the GenEd program:
All incoming students in Fall 2016 should have created their own copy of the MyOtterbein Portfolio during student orientation or the first weeks of the semester. These portfolios have placeholder areas for the different assignments, courses, and other experiences students will engage in while at Otterbein.
Students can connect their portfolios to any class in which they are registered. This lets faculty and other students in a class access a student's portfolio, but it also lets faculty create and grade Digication assignments.
Digication Assignments are part of course data. They capture students' work as a static, time-stamped snapshot that is recorded separately from a student's portfolio and can be referenced later as evidence of learning or for course design and/or assessment purposes.
Please note that students who began attending Otterbein before fall 2016 are not required to create a MyOtterbein Portfolio, but they do have access to the template and may use it optionally. See below for more information on the MyOtterbein Porfolio template and the different Digication support offerings available to faculty and students
Digication course shells are created automatically from banner data for each course offered at Otterbein. Faculty can create assignments in their courses that record student work as part of course data and are available to faculty and university after a course has ended and regardless of any changes made to the corresponding content in students portfolios.
The following Quick Reference Guides give you an overview of how to create and manage digication assignments. For more information about Digication and to see other guides and tutorials, see our Help Portfolio or read the Get Help section of this LibGuide.
