The Early Career Development Residency Program at the Courtright Memorial Library, Otterbein University, provides an opportunity for new-to-the-profession librarians to gain experience in an academic setting, within this 1 year residency program that can be renewed twice, up to a maximum of 3 years. The program allows the Courtright Memorial Library to fill staffing needs, while providing experience in an academic library for new librarians.
This residency will provide introductory work experience with rotation opportunities to enhance and explore areas of interests. The Resident will primarily handle reference and the administration of Springshare products (namely, LibAnswers and LibGuides). They will be responsible for all duties outlined in the position’s job description throughout their three years. In doing so they will be trained and have librarian and staff/administrative support in learning and doing the following responsibilities:
- Reference and public services work (including related Reference Collection development).
- Serves as a librarian liaison, which includes:
- assisting with departmental reviews and accreditation work as requested
- submitting acquisition requests and conducting collection development - both in the traditional sense for library holdings and for Digital Commons holdings;
- providing advanced instruction and subject specialty consultation;
- collaborating with teaching faculty to develop stronger relationships with departments
- promoting scholarly communications as requested (such as data management and curriculum design support).
- Assisting in teaching users research skills necessary for lifelong learning. Participating in the information literacy program; conducting library instruction sessions; and providing reference support for the information literacy program.
