Year 2: Exploration of Foci Areas

The Resident will explore areas of interest by choosing at least one and up to three functional areas. The candidate will work closely with that functional area’s lead, engaging and developing the work in a meaningful way. The functional areas may include:

  • Archives: Collaborate with the Archivist to work on projects, such as conducting oral histories, developing transcriptions, and creating finding aids in support of the archives needs.
  • Assessment: Collaborate with the Assessment and Special Projects Librarian on projects such as the streamlining and improving of functional unit assessment, the creation of the library annual report, and conducting and submitting reporting (e.g. IPEDS, Administrative Unit review).
  • Digital Initiatives: Assist the Digital and Web Services Librarian in project work such as constructing and/or following workflows to digitize and assign metadata to collections being added to the Digital Commons at Otterbein.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI): Work with the Policy and Assessment Committee and/or the library’s OhioLINK Luminary Program DEI intern; engage in outreach to connect with the Office of Social Justice and Activism and/or the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Center on campus; and assist in the library’s progress with our ongoing DEI commitments.
  • Electronic Access: Collaborate with the Electronic Access Librarian work on projects related to database usage, statistics collection, and concepts of open educational resources and Open Access, Intellectual Property, and copyright.
  • Instruction: Work with the Information Literacy Librarian to develop teaching skills and learn more about the ACRL Framework.  Projects may include participating in teaching the LIBR 2000 course, developing video tutorials, and conducting workshops.
  • Library Leadership, Administration and Partnership: Work with the Library Director to learn more about leveraging consortia opportunities and library leadership and administration by participating in conversations and decisions.
  • Programming and Marketing: Collaborate with the library’s Programming and Events Committee Chair and/or the university Marketing & Communication Department and other key stakeholders on projects such as the development of library programming, the creation of library promotional materials, and the management of library social media.
  • Technical Services: Work with the Technical Services Coordinator to assist with special projects related to collection development and/or collection assessment.

During Year 2 of the Early Career Development Residency, the Resident may also be assigned a mentor from a consortia school or professional association. The Resident may also begin goal-setting in preparation for Year 3 of the program.
