A lot of the industry information you'll find in the books and databases in this LibGuide are based on codes that are used by the U.S. Government to define industries for the information collected from corporations. The NAICS codes are current, but some sources still use data based on the older SIC codes.

The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. Use the Abstract as a convenient volume for statistical reference, and as a guide to sources of more information both in print and on the Web.
These pages display a ‘snapshot’ of national data obtained from different BLS surveys and programs. Many programs also produce additional industry detail, including state and regional data. Over 100 industry pages are available.
