No one named Delong was ever in the 129th Ohio Voluntary Infantry. Delong should actually be listed in Indiana’s 129th Voluntary Infantry.

David Denman Delong was born in Newville, Indiana.  He was a soldier in the Civil War around 1863 to 1865. Delong entered in the war as a Private in company F in Indiana’s 129thVoluntary Infantry. He exited the Civil War as a Hospital Steward. After the war, David Delong attended Otterbein University in Westerville, OH.  Delong graduated in 1870 with a BA in classical course studies.  David Delong went on to become the president of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania. David Delong passed away in the year 1932.

The 129th Indiana Voluntary Infantry, “organized at Kendallsville and Michigan City, Indiana from December 16, 1863 to March 1, 1864. The regiment was mustered in March 1, 1864.  The 129th Indiana Voluntary Infantry fought in several battles in the Civil War.  Some of the battles listed include: Rocky Faced Ridge, Battle of Resaca, Dallas, New Hope Church, Ruff’s Mills, Utoy Creek, Battle of Franklin, Battle of Nashville, and Battle of Wyse’s Fork. The Indiana 129thVoluntary Infantry was mustered out at Charlotte, North Carolina on August 29, 1865.  The Regiment lost during service 2 Officers and 19 enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 166 Enlisted men by disease. The total number of men the Indiana 129thVoluntary Infantry lost during the Civil war was 189.
