      For Private Andrew Sharp and his companions of the 10th Regiment of the Ohio Cavalry the Civil War was no easy task.  Organized in October of 1862 the men of the 10th Regiment of the Ohio Cavalry began marching and were called to duty where ever they were needed.  Their service extended from Ohio all the way down to the Carolinas.  Andrew Sharp and the 10thRegiment fought in a few major battles that proved to be very decisive in the wars effort as a whole.  Chickamauga, Bentonville, and The Battles of Resaca, to name a few were key battles in which the 10th Regiment fought in to keep unity within the Union.  The 10th Regiment and Private Sharp did not only see the problems of war in the Civil War however.  While in service the men of the 10th Regiment of the Ohio Cavalry were struck hard with disease and famine amongst the troops.  Diseases such as dysentery, measles, small pox, pneumonia, and malaria hit the regiment harder than the actual gunfire by the Confederate Army.  158 men of the 10thRegiment of the Ohio Calvary were struck by these awful diseases leading to their deaths.
